It doesn't matter who you are, what profession your in, how much money you make, what culture your from. No one is excluded from the humbling experience of being in need at some point in their lives. Most people could not walk past a crying infant without wondering " oh, poor baby, what's wrong, does it need help?". Sadly though, adults do not usually get that same type of compassion. Especially in cities. If a women in a city is being assaulted, she's taught to yell "fire" rather than "help". I'm thankful to live on the Big Island, because the concept of taking care of our brothers and sisters is still somewhat alive. We take care of eachother because it makes and keeps the "system" strong. I hope that we can continue to encourage eachother to hold onto that belief and remember the importance of teaching that to our keiki. Who knows, you might be the only person who showed an interest in them, and maybe they will pass that on to others and so on. It makes us as a person who we are. Compassion is hard to do, but its well worth it in the end!
