COURSE DESCRIPTION:
• This is a six-hour training aimed at providing an introduction to Confidentiality and Privacy Issues for the addictions professional.
• This course directly relates to the domains of assessment, counseling, case management, client education, and professional responsibility, with a specific substance abuse focus.

1. Major confidentiality and privacy issues relevant to alcohol and drug abuse treatment settings;
2. Patient records regulation and the HIPPA Privacy rule relevant to the counseling and helping professions;

Internal program communications; Crimes on program premises or against program personnel; Child abuse reporting; Medical emergencies; Subpoenas and court-ordered disclosures; Disclosures that do not reveal patient identifying information; Disclosures to agencies that provide services to programs;
5. Patient Notice/Notice of Privacy Practices Patient rights; Right to request a restriction of uses and disclosures; Right to access PHI; The right to amend PHI; Right to an accounting of disclosures of PHI; Complaints about the program’s privacy practices.
